City Hall News

Happy Spring! Hopefully the ups and downs of the weather will soon be done and we can enjoy some consistency of warmth.

We wish our farmers a safe planting season along with our gardeners. The weather and the colors of spring are ALWAYS welcome!! As of March 2nd, there is a new City Clerk in training. Courtney McCullough is excited to learn what Becky knows.

Here is a little about Courtney: I grew up in Livermore, Iowa. Moved to Bode in 2009. Was in childcare for 18 years. Attended TR all through elementary and graduated from TRV in 2003. I am 40 years old and have 3 children of my own, all teenagers! (2 girls and a boy) All attended TRV as well for elementary but went on to Humboldt High School. My oldest daughter attends Iowa Central as a Nursing Student. My other 2 are a junior and sophomore. I am very excited for a career change! I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with my kids! Hoping to do a little more fishing with them this summer! I can’t wait to get to know this job better and the people of the community more!

FLUSHING HYDRANTS: Mark your

calendars. The city will be flushing hydrants on Friday May 8th; please refrain from doing laundry as the water may become discolored.

MOWING: Just a reminder that grass needs to be kept mowed, if it should reach 6 inches the city may mow and bill you as the owner of the property.

Mowing should also include weed eating, please keep all weeds mowed including areas around your house, trees, and any outside items you may have.

BUILDING PERMITS:

This time of the year always brings all those building projects to mind. A building permit is required for ALL permanent structures. Pouring a cement slab or putting up a fence also requires a building permit. Applications are free of charge and available at the Bode City Hall

Bode Fire department

With daylight savings time in effect, we hope everyone changed batteries in your smoke detectors. If anyone needs help with their detectors contact a fireman and we will be glad to help.

Please be aware of burning and how fast a fire can spread if not controlled. The fire department is willing to burn CRP if needed for a charge. Please contact the department. As we go into summer and severe weather, please be aware of the different city sirens. If a tornado warning the siren will remain in a constant tone. If the fire department has a fire call the siren will be a high-low tone. As usual, during a tornado watch, the basement of the fire department will be unlocked as a shelter.

YARD WASTE

The City will pick up tree branches from your property if needed on Thursdays, these branches need to be cut to a 6-8ft length and piled in the same direction at the end of your property (please make sure they are away from any permanent structure) However, if you do hire a tree service to cut down or trim many trees; they would be responsible to remove the debris from your property.

With Spring here and clean-up days set, please plan on removing any garbage from your property that has blown in and utilize this service that is being provided for you. If we all do our part, we can all take pride in the way our community looks!

Before doing any digging or disturbing of the ground, remember to call Iowa One Call at 1 800-292-8989. This is necessary with all projects, even the planting of trees and bushes. Iowa One Call will notify all necessary utility companies of the impending dig. Within 48 hours each company will come to your property and locate their underground utilities.
