City Hall News
Season’s
Greetings and Happy New Year to all, we hope this year finds you happy and
healthy.
As
we approach a new year, we want everyone to know the city is continuing to address
nuisance properties. As you are aware, this can become a consuming task; therefore,
PLEASE do your part and keep your property clear of debris!
Our
Sewer project will soon be underway as soon as the conditions allow. This
project will address our lagoon, manholes, and lining of our existing sewer
lines. The city did receive a $500,000 CDBG grant to offset the total cost, and
recently received other news that may
help us tremendously with some of the
remaining cost. I will inform every one of the details as soon as I have
clarity on them.
Twin Rivers School Pantry
As some of you might know, Paula Fulwider coordinates
the Twin Rivers School Pantry Program here in our community. She is asking for
your help again this year.
We are still fortunate enough to still be partnering
with the Food Bank of Iowa, but as you might expect, the increasing food prices
has had a
tremendous impact on these resources.
She is asking for your help in a monetary way to
fill the never-ending gaps we are facing. Any amount is genuinely appreciated
currently to meet the demand of approximately 60 families per month.
If you would like to donate to this program, please
make checks payable to Twin River Elementary School, memo school pantry.
Thank you for taking the time to consider,
Snow and Ice:
With
winter weather, the city would like to remind you that it is the responsibility
of the property owner to remove all-natural accumulation of snow and ice from
sidewalks within a reasonable amount of time after accumulation. Please do not
blow or shovel your snow into the streets!
When
the snow does fall, we appreciate all the help we can get from our residents
and property owners. While you are clearing snow from your sidewalk, please be
mindful of any fire hydrants near or on your property. Do not pile snow on or
around them as this hides the hydrant from the street view.
Winter Parking: A snow
ordinance is in effect from November 1 to April 1 of each year. Therefore, no
person shall park, abandon, or leave any vehicle unattended on any public
street during a snowfall which has accumulated one inch or more of snow,
parking such vehicles impedes snow removal operations.
Bode Library
I
hope that everybody has noticed our new sign in the library window. We
will soon have two of them outside above the door so they will be easily read, if
you have something you would like on the sign call the library @
515-379-1258.
Thanks
to everybody that attended our annual Hot Turkey Meal and a reminder that we
will have Corned Beef & Cabbage in March.
Bode Fire Department
Hope everyone had a safe harvest. As we go further
into winter, please make sure that your exhaust pipes on the exterior of your
homes are clear of ice and snow. Also, be aware that space heaters are only to
be plugged into a wall outlet and not extension cords. Make sure they are off
when not in the room or when you are not home.
Our Annual Soup Luncheon fundraiser is being planned
for Sunday February 2nd from 11-2PM at the Bode Community Center. It will be a
dine in or carry out as in years past. Our menu will be Chili, Potato, and
Chicken & noodle soups. Rolls and dessert.
Free will donation. Come out and support our fundraising
for new equipment. Hope to see everyone!
Bode Community Club
The
icy conditions affected attendance for the Bode Community Clubs Santa Day which
was held December 14th. The brave souls who came enjoyed homemade
chili and chicken noodle soup, along with cinnamon rolls.
The
kids visited Santa, then received an apple from him and a bag of treats. They
also picked out gifts to give to their parents, courtesy of Virgina Norman.
Alex McKenna won a ham, and Josh Hannagan won a turkey.
Our
next meeting will be February 13th at 5:30PM in the Bode Community
Center. We will be planning “Egg Hunt and Omelets”.
Program.
The Bode Report is available at the city
hall March 25th is the deadline to make the
April water bills.
