Happy Spring! I think it is safe to say we all are looking forward to nice weather. Hopefully, soon we will see planters in the field and several working in their gardens; we wish for wonderful weather during this time.

FLUSHING HYDRANTS: Mark your calendars. The city will be flushing hydrants on Friday May 12th; please refrain from doing laundry as the water may become discolored.

GARBAGE PICK-UP: Garbage pick-up is on Tuesday’s each resident is allowed two (2) City of Bode bags per week; these bags should be set next to the road in front of your house or next to the alley; we are finding bags next to homes or in the middle of the yard and are unsure if they are meant for disposal.

Please set your garbage out no sooner than Monday evenings; we also require that all bags be tied by utilizing the draw strings.

Please keep your property clean!

MOWING: Just a reminder that grass needs to be kept mowed, if it should reach 6 inches the city may mow and bill you as the owner of the property.

Mowing should also include weed eating, please keep all weeds mowed including areas around your house, trees, and any outside items you may have.

City wide Clean-up Day is set for (one day only) Thursday May 25th. We will be doing this the same as we have the past few years. Roll-offs will be set at the city maintenance shed and will be available for you to bring your items between the hours of Noon-8PM, please use these hours only. Items should not be left any other time. Please call city hall if assistance is needed.

This year we will be charging for stuffed furniture and mattresses/box springs they are $10.00 per item.

Every household will be able to utilize this service free up to one vehicle. If more than one load a fee of $40 per trailer, $20 per pickup, and $5 per car will be charged.

The following items are considered E-Waste and due to new landfill regulations, these items can no longer be brought to the landfill and will be charged accordingly:

E-Waste Items

Television up to 13"

Television 14" - 26", computer monitors, flat screen TV’s

Television 27" +

Misc. E-waste

Computer Tower

Garage Door Openers

Items excluded are tires and any toxic chemicals. All appliances will need to be prepaid and left at your curb for pick-up. Please call City Hall if you have any questions.

Yard Waste/Property Clean-up

The City will pick up tree branches from your property if needed on Thursdays, these branches need to be cut to a 6-8ft length and piled in the same direction at the end of your property (please make sure they are away from any permanent structure) However, if you do hire a tree service to cut down or trim many trees; they would be responsible to remove the debris from your property.

With Spring here and clean-up days set, please plan on removing any garbage from your property that has blown in and utilize this service that is being provided for you. If we all do our part, we can all take pride in the way our community looks!

This time of the year always brings all those building projects to mind. A building permit is required for ALL permanent structures. Pouring a cement slab or putting up a fence also requires a building permit. Applications are free of charge and available at the Bode City Hall.

Before doing any digging or disturbing of the ground, remember to call Iowa One Call at 1 800-292-8989. This is necessary with all projects, even the planting of trees and bushes. Iowa One Call will notify all necessary utility companies of the impending dig. Within 48 hours each company will come to your property and locate their underground utilities. If you dig before calling Iowa One Call, you are responsible for any damages that may occur.
