The Bode City Council met in regular session December 7, 2020 at 5:30PM in the Bode Community Center (to allow social distancing) Council members Douglas, Peterson, Tepner, and Fulwider were present; absent Dale. Mayor Miller called the meeting to order, a motion was made by Tepner, second by Peterson to approve the agenda as posted. All ayes, motion carried. A motion was made by Peterson, second by Tepner to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. All ayes, motion carried.
Todd McMahon, city maintenance informed the council that the city had changed labs for water and wastewater testing to Ag Source due to Mangold Environmental Testing closure. He also informed the council that the new fuel barrel had arrived, the city will have access to diesel fuel at all times. The council had previously approved a street sweeper at the November council meeting; the item was no longer available. City Maintenance had located another street sweeper an 84” Sweepster the cost for this is $4599 plus $399 for shipping for a total cost of $4998; following discussion a motion was made by Douglas, second by Fulwider to approve this purchase. All ayes, motion carried.
The council reviewed an email from a concerned citizen concerning brush that had been scattered near the streets following the ice storm. City Clerk directed to send a letter to the property owner stating that the city would pick up this brush if the homeowner would cut and stack the branches for safe pickup.
Mayor Miller will serve on the Humboldt County 911 Service Board for the calendar year 2011.
A motion was made by Douglas, second by Tepner to donate $250 to Upper Des Moines Opportunity. All ayes, motion carried.
The council was informed that the Bode Library would be removing the current Pepsi Pop machine and replacing the machine with a new vendor that will allow the library to choose different types of soda beverages of their choice and they will also receive $100 per year to offset electrical expenses.
The council discussed filling the position when the city clerk is on vacation. City clerk informed the council that she would check with a surrounding town and also check on clerknet, to see how other towns with our population handle a “one person” office and vacation.
Council member Tepner has set up a website for the city, the address is www.cityofbode.org This website will show council minutes, newsletters, and be able to inform the public as quickly as possible to any changes or announcements the city may have.
The City Clerk was directed to remove nuisance properties from the agenda until further notice.
A motion was made by Peterson, second by Tepner to set next meeting as January 4, 2021.
