The
Bode City Council met in regular session Monday January 7, 2018 at 6PM in the
council chambers. All members were present. A motion was made by Dale, second
by Douglas to approve the agenda as posted.
A motion was made by Douglas, second by Dale to approve the minutes of
the December 4th and December 14th council meetings as
published. All ayes, motion carried.
Mayor
Miller welcomed the new council and wished everyone a Happy New Year; council
members Dale, Douglas, Tepner, and Peterson including Mayor Miller were sworn
in during the December 4th council meeting. Council member Rongved
was sworn in December 14th.
City
maintenance, Todd McMahon, informed the council that he had been in contact
with Blohm inspection and environmental services; the cost to inspect the
Hundertmark Building for Asbestos would cost between 900-1000. After inspection
the city may have an idea of the cost to remove the asbestos found during
inspection. Todd has also been in contact with contractors on estimated cost to
have the building removed following abatement of asbestos. The city is trying
to gather cost to apply for funding through the Iowa DNR on demolition of
commercial buildings. Following discussion, a motion was made by Tepner, second by Dale to approve the cost of the
inspection from Blohm Inspection to begin this process. All ayes, motion
carried.
City
Maintenance, Todd McMahon provided two bids to the council on replacing the
Center Mount Trolleys on two of the Maintenance Shed Garage doors and also
provide one remote, following review a motion was made by Dale, second by
Rongved to approve the bid of $2340 to Lichter’s Garage Openers
Mayor
Miller appointed Mark Dale as mayor pro-tem; other yearly appointments are as
follows: Brett Legvold with Arends, Lee, Emick & Legvold
Offices-City Attorney;
Newspaper-Humboldt Independent, Fire Chief-Mark Spaulding, Health
Officer-Kossuth Regional Medical Center, Bank-West Iowa Bank (Resolution #
2018-1), City Clerk-Becky Struthers, City Maintenance-Todd McMahon.
Councilmember Douglas had reviewed the Solid Waste Control and Collection Ordinance which our City Attorney had rewritten after Council Member Douglas and Mayor Miller had went to his office, to address the issue of “litter” within the city limits. After review Council Douglas will come in city hall to have the changes implemented before a public hearing on this ordinance.
Council Tepner volunteered to find cost on UPS (United Power Supply) that would allow items backed up from city hall to secure all information will remain available in the event of a disaster.
